Although I started with a discussion on international cultures, the current dynamic in the workplace is more relatable and relevant to me personally. I hate to admit that the excuse of Covid-19 is not only exhausting but even overused. As it sits today, the workforce, supply chain, wages rates, and even worse, the overall food industry has been tossed around and turned upside down. In many ways, it is itself a pandemic. I cannot speak for other sectors of the food industry, but in the corporate dining world, we are grasping for air daily as we experience a daily scramble to gain normalcy in the workplace and try to hire for our current needs. Our foodservice operations support buildings that house business administrators, call center employees, C-suite executives, large conference centers, and manufacturing. Throughout the last six months, our organization has had to hire back many mid and entry-level HR team members laid off during the pandemic.
